Handling Tax Notices
Do you handle all your tax notices with confidence? It’s unnerving to receive a notice from an agency! We’ll start with the basics and review the types of employment tax notices employers receive from Federal, State, Local and City agencies and discuss best practices in responding for both in-house and outsourced payroll systems.
We will discuss the impact of taxation for your employees who work in multiple states. Many employers think you just need to address State Income tax, however there is much more to it. Are you correctly handling your employee taxation or are you creating an issue for your workers and your company by not following the proper rules.

Rebecca (Becky) Harshberger
Ms. Harshberger (retired 01.12.2024) was the VP & Practice Leader, Payroll Tax at Entertainment Partners (EP) in Burbank, California for 20 years. EP is the back office for the motion picture, television and streaming industry, providing payroll and film incentive management as well as software that most of the industry uses for budgeting, scheduling, accounting, data insights and document management. Considered an expert in State and Federal Payroll Taxation, Becky provided Tax guidance for US employees working on productions in both the US and around the globe. Previously she was a Senior Manager, at both Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers National Payroll/Employment Tax Practice’s in Los Angeles. Prior to her employment in public accounting, Ms. Harshberger held positions in unemployment claims/payroll tax consulting, human resources and recruiting at both private and public companies.
She joined the Payroll.org (FKA America Payroll Association) National Board of Directors in 2020 as a Vice President, has served on PAYO’s National Speakers Bureau since 2011 and Co-Chairs the PAYO Government Affairs subcommittee focused on Federal issues since its inception in 2014. She was named PAYO Payroll woman of the year for 2024!
Becky and her husband reside in Santa Monica with their dog. Becky enjoys yoga, gardening, and cooking. During the pandemic, she resurrected her love of crochet and quilting!
We will be using the ZOOM platform for their presentation. As we approach the meeting date, we will provide invites and links for virtual attendance.
CPP STUDY Group!!!
Our chapter is proud to sponsor a CPP Study Group!!!! Classes will start in September and run through April of next year. This virtual group will be hosted by our current member and past president, Raeann Hofkin. The class is free for all SEPA Members and costs $75 for non-members.
